Job Description:
Our Ottawa based client is seeking 4 Application/Software Architect (Powerhouse/Interbase/Compliance) – Level 3 for a contract position. Running from date of award to March 31, 2013, with two additional 1 year optional periods.

All candidates must possess Reliability clearance.

The Application/Software Architect (Level 3) (Powerhouse/Interbase/Compliance) must perform, but is not limited to, the following tasks:

a) Develop technical architectures, frameworks and strategies, for the Legacy OMS to meet the business and application requirements.
b) Performing requirement gathering sessions with users, and translating the requirements into system specifications.
c) Prepare work estimates.
d) Monitor industry trends to ensure that solutions fit with government and industry directions for technology.
e) Analyze functional requirements to identify information, procedures and decision flows.
f) Evaluate existing procedures and methods, identify and document database content, structure, and application sub-systems, and develop data dictionary.
g) Define and document interfaces of manual to automated operations within application sub-systems, to external systems and between new and existing systems.
h) Identify and document system specific standards relating to programming, documentation and testing, covering program libraries, data dictionaries, naming conventions.
i) Monitor industry trends to ensure that solutions fit with government and industry directions for technology.
j) Participate in and/or leading Joint Application Development (JAD) sessions.
k) Identify the policies and requirements that would determine the flow for a particular solution.
l) Performing system analysis, designing, data modeling, developing, testing and writing of user and technical documentation.
m) Making changes to the Legacy Application;
i) Programming application software using Powerhouse.
ii) Programming application software using Interbase.
n) Reading Powerhouse code to extract Business Rules.
o) Reading Interbase DDL code to extract Business Rules.
p) Plan and Construct a Quality Assurance testing environment for both application and database compliance tests.

Other Requirements:
-Experience in excess of that outlined in mandatory criteria 1.2.a, as a Team Leader, performing activities such as supervising other team members, coordinating development activities for modular development, and preparing comprehensive work estimates -Experience in excess of that outlined in mandatory criteria 1.2.f, writing software applications using the Cognos Powerhouse products. -Experience in excess of that outlined in mandatory criteria 1.2.g, writing software applications using the Borland Interbase product -Experience in excess of that outlined in mandatory criteria 1.2.e, with HP ALPHA/AXP series of mini computers, using VMS or OpenVMS (version 6.2 or higher) operating system environments. -Experience in excess of that outlined in mandatory criteria 1.2.h, testing Enterprise Applications. -Experience working on large Powerhouse applications [i.e. ones that have in excess of 200 relations being used by at least 400 programs]. -Experience working within a distributed HP ALPHA/AXP, VMS/Open VMS-based Powerhouse/Interbase environment, including activities such as system analysis, designing, data modeling, developing, testing and writing of user and technical documentation. -Experience performing Powerhouse/Interbase application performance tuning, such as reviewing triggers, indexes, access statements, order by statements, to utilize efficiency in systems resources (i.e. I/O) and increase user response time. -Experience programming using the 4th GL Powerhouse (version 7.10 or higher) on an (HP) ALPHA/AXP, VMS/OpenVMS platform

The ideal candidate will have::
  • a minimum of two (2) years experience within the last four (4) years as a Team Leader, performing activities such as supervising other team members, coordinating development activities for modular development, and preparing comprehensive work estimates
  • a minimum of five (5) years experience in the last seven (7) years in performing design work on large scale databases
  • a minimum of five (5) years experience within the last eight (8) years in performing requirement gathering sessions with users, and translating the requirements into system specifications
  • a minimum of five (5) years experience within the last eight (8) years performing system analysis, designing, data modeling, developing, testing and writing of user and technical documentation
  • a minimum of five (5) years experience within the past ten (10) with HP ALPHA/AXP series of mini computers, using VMS or OpenVMS (version 6.2 or higher) operating system environments
  • a minimum of six (6) years experience writing software applications using the Cognos Powerhouse products
  • a minimum of five (5) years experience writing software applications using the Borland Interbase product
  • a minimum of five (5) years experience testing Enterprise Applications
  • a minimum of five (5) years experience verifying the data within Oracle databases to ensure compliance with requirements and Business rules
